Scindapsus Platinum

Understated yet utterly captivating, Scindapsus Platinum (Scindapsus pictus 'Platinum') is the most coveted form in the pictus family. Its large, heart-shaped leaves are washed in an almost total silver-platinum overlay, with barely a trace of the underlying green — a rare, ethereal look that makes it one of the most sought-after aroids in any serious collection.

Care Guide

Light

Thrives in medium to bright indirect light. Stronger light intensity enhances and preserves the signature platinum silver variegation. Avoid direct sun, which bleaches and scorches the delicate foliage, and very low light, which causes the silver to fade and growth to stall.

Water

Allow the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings. Scindapsus Platinum is more drought-tolerant than many aroids and is far more forgiving of underwatering than overwatering. Always use a pot with drainage and never let roots sit in standing water.

Humidity

Adapts well to average household humidity (40–60%) but truly thrives above 60%. Higher humidity encourages larger leaves and a more lustrous silver finish. A pebble tray or nearby humidifier is beneficial, especially in winter.

Temperature

Ideal range is 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents. Avoid temperatures below 55°F, which can cause cold damage and leaf drop.

Soil & Potting

Use a well-draining aroid mix: a blend of potting soil, perlite, and a small amount of orchid bark works well. Repot every 1–2 years in spring when the plant becomes root-bound. Scindapsus prefer to be slightly snug in their pots.

Fertilizer

Feed monthly during the growing season (spring through summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. No feeding is needed in autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

Growth Habit

A natural climber and trailer — provide a moss pole or trellis to encourage larger leaf development, or allow it to cascade beautifully from a shelf or hanging planter. Leaves grow significantly larger when given vertical support.
