The Philodendron Giganteum Blizzard is a rare variegated form of the already impressive Philodendron giganteum, combining that species' signature oversized, glossy foliage with striking white-to-cream variegation splashed and streaked across deep green leaves. Each leaf is a unique expression — no two are alike — making Blizzard a standout collector's specimen. As the plant matures and climbs, leaves can reach truly giant proportions, creating a bold, tropical focal point indoors or in sheltered outdoor spaces.

Care Guide

Light

Bright, indirect light is ideal. Variegated sections contain less chlorophyll than fully green leaves, so Blizzard benefits from more light than standard philodendrons to support healthy growth. An east- or west-facing window, or a spot set back from a bright south-facing window, works well. Avoid direct midday sun, which can bleach or scorch the variegated portions.

Water

Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Blizzard prefers consistent but not excessive moisture — never allow it to sit in standing water. Use a pot with adequate drainage and empty saucers after watering. Reduce frequency during winter when growth slows.

Humidity & Temperature

Thrives in humidity of 60% or higher. Grows best between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and temperatures below 55°F (13°C), which can cause leaf damage and slow or stall growth.

Soil & Potting

Use a rich but well-draining aroid mix — a blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark provides the balance of moisture retention and aeration this species needs. Giganteum Blizzard is a climber; a sturdy moss pole or totem is strongly recommended to support larger leaves and encourage upward growth. Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound.

Fertilizing

Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength every 3–4 weeks during the active growing season (spring through summer). Because variegated plants grow more slowly than their all-green counterparts, avoid over-fertilizing, which can stress the plant. Withhold fertilizer in fall and winter.

Toxicity

Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
