Hoya Green Ghost Splash Mother
$55.00
A specter of the understory — luminous, elusive, and unmistakably rare.
The Hoya Green Ghost is a collector's cultivar prized for its translucent, jade-toned foliage with a ghostly, almost iridescent sheen that shifts subtly under different light conditions. Each waxy leaf carries a depth of color that reads silver-green in low light and deepens to a rich emerald in bright indirect exposure — a living study in botanical optics.
Native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia, this Hoya rewards patient, attentive growers with cascading vines and, in maturity, clusters of star-shaped porcelain blooms with a sweet, honeyed fragrance. A statement piece for the serious collector.
Care Guide
Light
- Bright indirect light is ideal — an east- or west-facing window is optimal.
- Tolerates lower light but growth slows significantly; avoid harsh direct afternoon sun which can bleach the foliage.
Water
- Water thoroughly, then allow the top 50–75% of the substrate to dry before rewatering.
- Reduce frequency in winter; Hoyas are highly susceptible to root rot from overwatering.
- Use filtered or rainwater when possible — sensitive to fluoride and chlorine buildup.
Humidity
- Prefers 50–70% relative humidity.
- Thrives in a humid shelfie setup or near a humidifier; avoid cold drafts and heating vents.
Temperature
- Optimal range: 65–85°F (18–29°C).
- Do not expose to temperatures below 50°F (10°C); not frost-tolerant.
Substrate
- A chunky, well-draining aroid mix performs best — combine perlite, orchid bark, and a small amount of coco coir.
- Avoid dense, moisture-retentive soils.
Fertilizer
- Feed monthly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
- Phosphorus-forward formula (e.g., 5-10-5) during late summer to encourage blooming.
- Do not fertilize in winter.
Potting
- Prefers to be slightly root-bound; repot only when roots are visibly escaping drainage holes.
- Use a terracotta or breathable pot to support moisture regulation.
Propagation
- Stem cuttings with at least one node root readily in water, sphagnum moss, or directly in substrate.
- Maintain warmth (75°F+) and humidity for fastest rooting.
Toxicity
- Non-toxic to humans; mildly toxic to cats and dogs if ingested in large quantities — advise pet owners to keep out of reach.
