Care Guide

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate foliage. A north- or east-facing window is ideal; filtered light through a sheer curtain works beautifully.

Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and always ensure the pot has adequate drainage. Reduce watering significantly during dormancy in cooler months.

Humidity: Caladiums love humidity. Aim for 60–80% relative humidity. A pebble tray with water, a nearby humidifier, or grouping with other tropicals will keep the foliage lush and vibrant.

Temperature: Prefers warm conditions between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and temperatures below 60°F, which can trigger premature dormancy.

Soil: A well-draining, peat- or coco coir-based mix with added perlite is ideal. Good aeration at the root zone is key to preventing rot.

Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the active growing season (spring through summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Avoid fertilizing during dormancy.

Dormancy: Caladiums are seasonal growers. As days shorten and temperatures cool, foliage will naturally die back. Allow the tuber to rest in dry soil for 3–5 months before resuming watering in spring.
