A collector's crown jewel. The Alocasia longiloba 'Suhirmaniana' Aurea is an exceptionally rare variegated form of this already-coveted Bornean species, presenting with luminous golden-yellow to chartreuse sectoral variegation across its dramatically elongated, silver-veined foliage. Each leaf is a study in contrast — deep blue-green base tissue interrupted by sweeping aurea sectors that range from pale lemon to rich gold depending on light exposure and leaf maturity.

Unlike many variegated aroids, the Suhirmaniana clone exhibits remarkable variegation stability, with consistent expression across new growth. The architectural silhouette — long, arrowhead-shaped blades with pronounced midrib and lateral venation — makes this a statement specimen in any serious collection.

Offered as a rooted plant with established root system. Variegation expression will vary per individual; photos are representative of the clone's typical output.

Care Guide

  • Light — Bright, indirect light is essential to sustain and intensify aurea variegation. Avoid direct sun, which scorches the lighter sectors. North or east-facing windows with supplemental grow lighting yield the best results.
  • Water — Allow the top 1–2 inches of substrate to dry between waterings. Alocasias are sensitive to both overwatering and drought stress; erring toward slightly drier conditions reduces rot risk in the corm.
  • Humidity — Thrives at 65–80%+. Use a humidifier rather than misting to maintain consistent ambient humidity without promoting fungal issues on the foliage.
  • Temperature — Keep between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F, which can trigger dormancy or corm dieback.
  • Substrate — A chunky, well-draining aroid mix is ideal: perlite, orchid bark, and a small amount of coco coir or peat. Avoid dense, moisture-retentive soils.
  • Fertilizer — Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) at half strength every 2–3 weeks during active growth. Reduce or cease feeding during dormancy.
  • Dormancy — Like most Alocasias, this species may enter a rest period in lower light or cooler months. Do not discard the corm — reduce watering and resume care when new growth emerges.
  • Repotting — Repot only when rootbound, typically every 1–2 years. Choose a pot only 1–2 inches larger than the current root ball to avoid excess moisture retention.
