The Staghorn Fern (Platycerium bifurcatum) is one of the plant kingdom's most dramatic epiphytes — its forked, antler-like fronds emerge with wild, organic confidence, evoking the lush canopy floors of tropical rainforests. Mounted on a board or displayed in a basket, it transforms any wall or surface into a living installation.

Unlike most houseplants, the Staghorn anchors itself to surfaces rather than soil, drawing moisture and nutrients through its fronds. A conversation piece and a collector's essential — there is simply nothing else quite like it.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright indirect light is ideal; avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the fronds, and low light, which slows growth.
  • Water: Soak the root ball or basal shield thoroughly, then allow to dry out before watering again. In warmer months, water weekly; reduce in winter. Do not mist the antler fronds directly.
  • Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity; bathrooms or kitchens with natural light are ideal environments.
  • Temperature: Prefers 60–80°F (16–27°C). Protect from frost and cold drafts.
  • Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength, applied to the root ball.
  • Mounting: Best displayed mounted on a wooden board with sphagnum moss at the root base, or in a hanging basket. Avoid burying in traditional potting soil.
