Scindapsus Treubii Black
$35.00
Scindapsus treubii ‘Dark Form’ — the Black Scindapsus — is one of the most dramatically moody and sought-after aroids in the collector market. Its thick, waxy leaves are an extraordinarily deep, near-black green with a subtle silver sheen that shifts in different light, creating a plant of quiet, almost gothic elegance. Slow-growing and deeply architectural, Treubii Dark Form rewards patience with a presence unlike anything else in the genus — a plant that commands attention through restraint rather than spectacle. An essential specimen for the serious collector.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright to medium indirect light is ideal. The near-black coloration deepens and the silver sheen becomes more pronounced with consistent brightness. Tolerates lower light well but growth slows significantly. Avoid direct sun.
- Water: Allow the top half to two-thirds of the soil to dry between waterings. Scindapsus stores moisture in its thick, waxy leaves and is highly susceptible to root rot — water sparingly and consistently.
- Humidity: Thrives at 50–70% humidity. Tolerates average household humidity reasonably well but benefits from a humidifier for optimal leaf development.
- Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F.
- Soil: Well-draining aroid mix — potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark. Excellent drainage is essential.
- Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Scindapsus are light feeders — avoid over-fertilizing.
- Support: Vining and slow-growing — a moss pole or trellis encourages larger, more dramatic leaves as it climbs.
- Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested.
