The Scindapsus Mariposa is a breathtaking collector aroid celebrated for its large, velvety leaves adorned with an ethereal silver variegation that seems to float across the deep green surface. “Mariposa” — Spanish for butterfly — perfectly captures the delicate, wing-like patterning that makes each leaf a unique work of natural art. A rare and highly coveted species, it brings an unmistakable sense of luxury to any curated plant collection.

Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright indirect light. An east- or north-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct sun exposure, which can fade the silver variegation and scorch the velvety leaf surface.

Water

Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Like most Scindapsus, the Mariposa is drought-tolerant and highly susceptible to root rot from overwatering. Less is more.

Humidity

Prefers 55–70% humidity for optimal growth and leaf size. A humidifier or pebble tray will help in drier environments. Adapts to average household humidity but may produce smaller leaves.

Temperature

Keep between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from cold drafts, air vents, and temperatures below 55°F, which can cause stress and leaf damage.

Soil & Potting

Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix — a blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark provides the ideal balance of moisture retention and aeration. Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound.

Fertilizer

Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Reduce feeding in fall and discontinue through winter.

Toxicity

Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
