Care Guide

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light. Best positioned near an east- or west-facing window where it receives gentle, filtered light for several hours per day. More light encourages faster growth and more pronounced leaf dissection. Avoid harsh direct sun, which will scorch the delicate lobes.

Water

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Tortum prefers consistent moisture but is intolerant of waterlogged roots. Always use a well-draining pot and empty saucers promptly. Reduce watering frequency in cooler months.

Humidity & Temperature

As a rainforest native, Tortum thrives in high humidity — ideally 60–80%. It grows best between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from cold drafts, air vents, and any temperatures below 55°F (13°C), which can cause stress and leaf damage.

Soil & Potting

Use a loose, well-aerated aroid mix: a combination of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal. Good airflow around the roots is essential. Tortum appreciates a moss pole or stake as it matures and begins to climb. Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound.

Fertilizing

Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength every 3–4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Withhold fertilizer during fall and winter when growth naturally slows.

Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
