Philodendron Black Cardinal 4”
$15.00
Philodendron Black Cardinal is a bold, self-heading hybrid celebrated for its dramatic, near-black foliage that emerges in deep burgundy-red before darkening to an almost obsidian hue. Unlike vining Philodendrons, Black Cardinal grows in a compact, upright rosette — making it a commanding centerpiece for any interior. Its large, glossy leaves develop rich color in good light and hold their dark tones with maturity, offering year-round visual impact with minimal fuss.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright indirect light deepens foliage color. Tolerates medium light, but leaves may stay smaller and less dark. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch leaves.
- Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Avoid soggy soil — well-draining mix is key. Reduce frequency in winter.
- Humidity: Prefers 50–70% humidity. Misting, a humidifier, or a pebble tray will keep it thriving in dry climates.
- Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C). Sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F.
- Soil: Rich, chunky aroid mix with perlite or orchid bark for excellent drainage and aeration.
- Fertilizer: Balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce or pause in fall and winter.
- Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
