Maranta leuconeura ‘Erythroneura’

Velvety green leaves, vivid red veins, and soft lime-green markings give Maranta Red its distinctive, hand-painted appearance. Commonly known as the red prayer plant, its leaves lift in the evening and lower again with daylight.

Its low, spreading growth looks beautiful on a shelf or tabletop, where the patterned foliage can gently trail as it matures. A rewarding choice for growers who enjoy keeping moisture and humidity consistent.

Care

• Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch or fade the foliage.
• Water: Water when the surface of the potting mix begins to dry. Keep evenly moist, not soggy, and let excess water drain.
• Humidity: Prefers higher humidity. Keep away from heating vents and dry drafts.
• Temperature: Warm, stable conditions, ideally 65–80°F.
• Soil: Use a well-draining mix that retains some moisture, in a pot with drainage holes.
• Feeding: Apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength monthly during active growth.
• Pets: Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, but not intended for eating.

Tip browning can occur with dry air, inconsistent watering, or mineral-heavy water. Filtered or distilled water may help if browning persists.
