Maranta Beauty Kim Variegated
$25.00
The Maranta 'Beauty Kim' Variegated is a rare and visually arresting prayer plant, prized for its richly patterned foliage splashed with creamy white to pale yellow variegation over the cultivar's signature deep green and burgundy markings. Like all Marantas, its leaves fold upward at dusk in a gentle, rhythmic motion — a behavior that has earned the group the beloved nickname "prayer plants."
The variegated form of Beauty Kim is significantly harder to source than its all-green counterpart, making it a standout addition to any serious tropical collection.
Care Guide
- Light: Prefers bright to medium indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which fades and scorches the delicate variegation. North or east-facing windows are ideal; supplement with a grow light in lower-light spaces.
- Water: Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top ½–1" of soil begins to dry. Marantas are sensitive to both drought and overwatering — consistency is key. Use filtered or room-temperature water when possible, as they can be sensitive to fluoride and salts.
- Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is strongly preferred. A humidifier nearby or placement in a naturally humid space (bathroom, kitchen) will significantly improve growth and leaf quality. Avoid dry air from heating vents.
- Temperature: Thrives between 65–80°F (18–27°C). Sensitive to cold — keep away from drafts and temperatures below 60°F.
- Soil: A moisture-retentive yet well-draining mix works best — combine potting soil with perlite and a small amount of peat or coco coir to balance moisture and aeration.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 3–4 weeks during the growing season (spring through summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer at quarter to half strength. Marantas are light feeders — over-fertilizing can cause tip burn. Withhold in fall and winter.
- Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years in spring when roots begin to crowd the pot. Prefers to be slightly root-bound; move up only one pot size at a time.
Non-toxic to pets and humans — a safe choice for plant lovers with curious animals or children.
