Hoya pubicalyx Splash is a rare and highly coveted mutation of one of the most popular Hoya species — celebrated for its dramatic, irregular white or cream variegation that splashes across the surface of its thick, velvety, heart-shaped leaves. Native to Southeast Asia, this slow-growing climber is prized by collectors for its striking foliage contrast and its ability to produce clusters of small, fragrant, star-shaped flowers in tight umbels.

The splash variegation pattern is genetically unstable and unpredictable, making each specimen a truly one-of-a-kind acquisition. Its compact, trailing habit makes it equally at home in hanging baskets, mounted displays, or curated shelf arrangements.

Care Guide

• Light: Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain and encourage variegation. Insufficient light causes reversion to green; harsh direct sun can scorch leaves. Eastern or filtered southern exposure is ideal.
• Water: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. This Hoya is drought-tolerant and highly susceptible to root rot if overwatered — err on the side of underwatering.
• Soil: Well-draining, chunky mix. A blend of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir in equal parts provides excellent aeration and drainage.
• Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50–70%) is preferred, though it adapts well to average indoor conditions.
• Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.
• Fertilizer: Dilute balanced fertilizer during the growing season (spring–summer). Reduce or withhold in winter to encourage dormancy and promote flowering.
• Propagation: Stem cuttings rooted in water or perlite. Note that splash variegation is unstable and may not carry over to propagated offspring.
• Toxicity: Contains cardiac glycosides — keep out of reach of pets and children.
