Hoya Macrophylla Pot of Gold 4"
$25.00
A rare and luminous cultivar that lives up to its name. Hoya Macrophylla 'Pot of Gold' is a highly sought-after variegated form distinguished by its large, deeply veined leaves with golden-yellow centers that gradually transition to green at the margins — the reverse pattern of the more common Albo form. In bright light, the golden variegation glows with a warmth that makes this plant a true focal point in any collection.
Like all Macrophylla, the pronounced pale venation adds a second layer of visual texture, making each leaf a composition in its own right. A collector's piece that is as rare to find as it is rewarding to grow.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain the golden variegation — insufficient light will cause the yellow centers to fade to green. An east- or west-facing window is ideal. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the large leaves.
- Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. The thick, waxy leaves store moisture well. Overwatering is the primary risk — always err on the side of dryness, especially in cooler months.
- Humidity: Prefers 50–70% humidity. Higher humidity encourages larger, more vibrant leaves. A humidifier or pebble tray is recommended in drier indoor environments.
- Temperature: Thrives between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and temperatures below 55°F.
- Soil: A well-aerated, fast-draining mix is essential. Combine quality potting mix with perlite and orchid bark to prevent moisture retention around the roots.
- Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can diminish variegation intensity.
- Repotting: Prefers to be slightly root-bound. Repot only when roots are escaping drainage holes, moving up just one pot size at a time.
- Blooming: Produces clusters of waxy, star-shaped flowers on persistent peduncles. Never remove the flower spurs — new blooms return to the same node each season.
Non-toxic to humans. Mildly toxic to pets if ingested — keep out of reach of animals.
