Begonia Maculata 6”
$25.00
Begonia maculata brings striking pattern and color to your collection with elongated, wing-shaped leaves dotted in silvery white. Rich burgundy undersides add contrast, while upright, cane-like stems give the plant an elegant silhouette. Commonly called the polka dot begonia, it is a distinctive foliage plant that may also produce clusters of delicate white flowers in favorable conditions.
Care guide
- Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water when the top inch of potting mix feels dry. Keep the root zone lightly moist, never soggy, and allow excess water to drain.
- Soil: Use an airy, well-draining indoor potting mix amended with perlite and fine orchid bark. Choose a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally around 50–60% or higher, with gentle airflow. Avoid misting the foliage or leaving leaves wet.
- Temperature: Prefers stable indoor temperatures around 65–80°F. Protect from cold drafts and drying vents.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength every 2–4 weeks during active growth. Reduce or pause feeding when growth slows.
- Maintenance: Use a small stake if taller canes need support. Prune just above a node to encourage branching, and remove faded flowers or damaged leaves.
- Pet safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, particularly the roots. Keep out of their reach.
Care tip: Aim for consistent moisture without saturation. Letting the plant dry out completely can contribute to crispy leaf edges, while persistently wet soil can damage the roots.
