Bold, architectural, and unapologetically dramatic — the Alocasia Regal Shield commands attention in any interior. Its oversized, deep green leaves are sculpted with prominent silver-green veining and a velvety, shield-like silhouette that evokes the lush, layered canopies of tropical Southeast Asia. A true collector's statement piece.

Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which will scorch the foliage. A north- or east-facing window, or a few feet back from a south- or west-facing window, is ideal. It will tolerate lower light but growth will slow.

Water

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Alocasia are sensitive to both overwatering and drought — allow the pot to drain fully and never let the roots sit in standing water. Reduce frequency in winter when growth slows.

Humidity & Temperature

Prefers 60–80% humidity. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or group with other tropicals to maintain moisture in the air. Keep temperatures between 65–85°F (18–29°C) and away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and radiators.

Soil & Potting

Use a well-draining, aerated mix — a blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark works beautifully. Repot every 1–2 years in spring when roots begin circling the base of the pot. Choose a pot only 1–2 inches larger than the current one.

Fertilizer

Feed monthly during the active growing season (spring through early fall) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Do not fertilize in winter.

Common Notes

Like all Alocasia, the Regal Shield may go dormant in low light or cooler winter conditions — this is normal. Reduce watering and wait for new growth to emerge in spring. Toxic to pets and humans if ingested; keep out of reach of children and animals.
