Alocasia Polly
$20.00
Alocasia ‘Polly’ (Alocasia × amazonica ‘Polly’) is one of the most iconic and widely loved compact aroids in cultivation — its arrow-shaped leaves are a deep, glossy green with dramatically scalloped edges and bold, contrasting white veins that trace every lobe with architectural precision. Upright, sculptural, and unmistakably tropical, Polly brings a graphic, high-contrast energy to any interior. A gateway plant for new collectors and a perennial favorite for experienced ones.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright indirect light is ideal for maintaining the deep green color and bold vein contrast. Tolerates medium light but growth will slow. Avoid direct sun, which scorches the foliage.
- Water: Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry between waterings. Alocasias are highly susceptible to root rot — never let roots sit in standing water. Reduce watering in winter.
- Humidity: Thrives at 60–80% humidity. A humidifier is strongly recommended — low humidity causes leaf edge browning and crisping.
- Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C). Sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F.
- Soil: Well-draining aroid mix — potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark. Excellent drainage is essential.
- Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Reduce or stop feeding in winter.
- Dormancy: May drop leaves and go dormant in low light or cool conditions — this is normal. Maintain warmth and humidity and new growth will emerge.
- Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested.
