Alocasia 'Pink Chantrieri' is a rare and visually arresting hybrid prized for its deep, velvety dark foliage suffused with warm pink to coppery-rose tones — a colouration that shifts subtly depending on light conditions. The leaves are broad and heart-shaped with a lustrous, almost metallic sheen on the upper surface, making this one of the most distinctive and sought-after aroids in the collector market.

Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light, which best brings out the pink and copper tones in the foliage. Avoid direct sun, which can bleach and scorch the leaf surface. A position near an east-facing window or set back from a brighter exposure works well. Insufficient light will cause the colouration to deepen toward green and slow growth.

Water

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. 'Pink Chantrieri' is sensitive to overwatering — always use a pot with drainage and never allow the roots to sit in standing water. Err on the side of slightly drier conditions rather than consistently moist soil. Reduce watering frequency in winter.

Humidity

Prefers humidity of 60–75% or above. A humidifier is the most reliable way to maintain adequate moisture in the air. Avoid positioning near heating vents or air-conditioning units. Low humidity will cause browning at leaf edges and may dull the characteristic sheen of the foliage.

Temperature

Keep between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C) and sudden cold draughts, which can trigger rapid leaf drop and stress the plant significantly.

Soil & Potting

Use a well-draining aroid mix: coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark in roughly equal parts. Avoid dense or moisture-retentive potting soils. Repot in spring when root-bound, sizing up by no more than 2 inches to minimise overwatering risk.

Fertiliser

Feed monthly during the growing season (spring through summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Do not fertilise in autumn or winter. Over-fertilising can cause tip burn and may affect the intensity of the pink colouration.

Dormancy

May enter a rest period during cooler or lower-light months, dropping older leaves. Maintain warmth and humidity, reduce watering, and avoid fertilising until new growth resumes. Emerging leaves often display the most vivid pink tones.

Toxicity

Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
