The Alocasia Dragon Scale Mint is a collector form of the beloved Alocasia baginda, distinguished by its exceptional silver-mint leaf coloration. Where the standard Dragon Scale delivers deep olive-green with pronounced quilted texture, the Mint form shifts the palette into cool silvery-green tones — retaining every bit of the dramatic dragon-scale patterning, dark contrasting veins, and leathery, almost reptilian leaf surface that made this species a must-have.

A compact, upright grower that fits beautifully on shelves, side tables, and curated plant displays. Slower-growing than many aroids, it rewards patience with leaves that feel sculptural rather than botanical.

Care Guide

☀️ Light

Bright, indirect light produces the most vivid silver patterning. Direct sun will bleach and burn the leaves; too little light dulls the contrast and slows growth. An east-facing window or a bright interior spot a few feet from a south or west exposure is ideal. Stable, consistent light is more important than intensity.

💧 Water

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil have dried out. Alocasia baginda is susceptible to root rot if kept consistently moist — err on the side of slightly drier rather than wetter. Always use well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes. Reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows.

💦 Humidity

Prefers humidity of 60%+ for optimal growth and to maintain leaf integrity. A nearby humidifier is the most reliable solution. Avoid cold drafts, heating vents, and low-humidity indoor environments, which can cause leaf curl and browning edges.

🌡️ Temperature

Thrives between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep away from cold windows and air conditioning in winter. Do not expose to temperatures below 60°F — cold stress causes rapid leaf drop.

🪴 Soil & Potting

A chunky, fast-draining aroid mix is essential: combine coco coir, perlite, orchid bark, and a small amount of worm castings. Avoid standard potting soil, which retains too much moisture for this species. Repot only when clearly rootbound — Dragon Scale prefers snug roots.

🌿 Fertilizing

Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength every 2–3 weeks during spring and summer. Suspend feeding in fall and winter. Over-fertilizing can cause tip burn and may suppress the silver tonal quality of the foliage.
